ROSSUM OY

Rossum Oy is a Finnish software company specializing in the management of mobile work and partner networks. Our mission is to secure and enhance mobile work. Our customers include telecom operators, energy companies, and high-technology and mobile work providers. Our goal is to offer effective and secure solutions for mobile work management and ensure brand visibility and quality of the customer experience across the entire supply chain.

Where does the name Rossum come from?

It was the year 1920, and the world was recovering from the evils of the First World War. While the cannons fell silent and the weapons ceased fire, people reached toward a new future.

That future was also sought by Čapek’s play. In it, Rossum’s factories gave birth to human-like robots that could work just like any of us. The idea was revolutionary, bringing a piece of tomorrow’s world before a stunned audience.

The play became a success. The word “robot,” used for the first time, became established, and the play was, in other ways, astonishingly ahead of its time. Its influence is visible today all over the world, including in our software company here in Lahti…

Rossum Oy, a long-term partner of telecom operators

…Rossum was indeed founded in 1994 – I myself joined the company in 2007 so I wasn’t involved in the very early stages. However, something intelligent must be at play for profitable business to have continued for decades.

Our work has consistently been related to the daily lives of mobile field workers. A good example is the cooperation carried out with telecom operators. In their business, work is outsourced to subcontractors/contractors…

Rossum Toolkit - The technician's toolbox!

In the previous story, I mentioned the Toolkit. As its name suggests, the Toolkit means a toolbox, and the fundamental purpose of the service is to gather all the tools needed for field work into a single user interface (single sign-on).

And as we discussed, we have particularly considered the situation where the field worker is employed by a different company than the client who ordered the work. Naturally, the technician’s mobile system varies by company, and the client, of course, does not have access to that system.

Rossum Security Portal guarantees safe workers for your facilities!

In previous posts, I have discussed how collaboration works smoothly with professionals operating in the field using Rossum’s services. The network includes workers from different companies, and operations may take place in different countries and cultures. How do we ensure that operations with a cooperation partner function reliably and securely? How do we ensure the reliability of employees and the training required by the operating environment? Keeping these questions in mind, among others, we have developed the Rossum Security Portal, whose purpose is to manage the smooth onboarding process of external personnel.

On Monday, May 22, 2023, we held a free webinar where our guests were Mats Fagerström from Helen Oy and Jani Piippo from Abloy Oy. In the webinar, we had a versatile discussion around the topic. You can watch the webinar recording from this link: https://rossum.fi/webinaari/

Access Credentials tool allows technicians to access desired facilities

Rossum’s expertise and services are focused on work performed in the field. One challenge in installation work can be access to a property. Work is often carried out in the technical premises of a commercial unit or an apartment building. At another time, it might be necessary to locate a distribution point or electrical cabinet in the terrain of a sparsely populated area. Finding the right premises or distribution point is not always easy, and too much time can be wasted. In the worst-case scenario, the job remains undone, and the technician has to return the next day.

End-customer communication is part of the brand

When installation or similar jobs are outsourced and carried out by a partner, the end customer should not be forgotten – meaning the person or company who ordered the product or service that is going to be installed.

I still remember an experience from several years ago when my phone rang from “some” number, and I answered. The caller introduced their company and name very nicely and said they wanted to schedule an installation time. My slow, Hämäläinen (Finnish regional reference) brain didn’t immediately register what this was about. I had to ask, “So what is this related to?” – until it dawned on me that I had ordered a service a few weeks earlier, but I had ordered it from a different company.

When the service is delivered by a cooperation partner, meaning a different company from the one the customer ordered the service from, maintaining your own brand throughout the entire delivery process is definitely good customer service. Furthermore, who wouldn’t want visibility for their own company!
